2020 Instructional (Grades K-1) Registration

Spring 2020 K-1 Instructional League Softball

Instructional League Softball, Grades K-1, focuses on having fun and the early development of softball skills.  This includes hitting, throwing, fielding, and catching.  Practices are typically station style drills in small groups, and then modifed games are played where each player on both teams hits each inning.  The season starts out as tee ball and then moves toward coaches pitching as soon as possible.

The typical schedule is a 6 week season beginning after April vacation and running into early June.  Saturday mornings are often a league wide clinic style practice and then there are typically two short games per week, one weeknight and Sunday mornings.  Early in the season, greater emphasis is placed on practice than on games.

Base Cost: $110.00

Opened: 01/01/2020

In Grades: K to 1 for 2019-20 School year

2020 Intermediate (Grade 2) Registration

Spring 2020 Second Grade Intermediate League Softball

The Second Grade Intermediate League is the next step in playing experience for our kids.  There are 1-2 Games and 1 Practice per week, during the 6-7 week schedule from the end of April to early June.  The focus is on emerging skills in throwing, fielding, and hitting.  Players will be exposed to the next level of game conditions, including working on force plays and tracking outs.  We also introduce the position of catcher at this level.

Depending on the numbers, this is usually a stand alone grade 2 league, however, we could possibly integrate with some players from grade 3.

Base Cost: $110.00

Opened: 01/01/2020

In Grade: 2 for 2019-20 School year

2020 Junior B (Grades 3-4) Registration

Spring 2020 Grades 3-4 Junior B League Softball

Junior B is an important transition league level and an introduction to the complete game with modified ASA/USA rules.  Players pitch (coaches pitch after 4 balls), 5 inning games (time permitting), introduction to limited stealing, no bunting, outs count, 4 run limit per inning.  Pitchers pitch from 35 feet, bases are 55 feet apart at 1st and 3rd and 72.4 feet at 2nd (from home plate).  The game becomes slightly more competitive with score keeping and umpires, however the focus remains on having fun and continuing to build skills.

The typical schedule is a 6-7 week season beginning after April vacation and running into early June, followed by a short playoff season and a best of 3 finals.  Typically there will be one practice per week and 2 games, one on a Sunday late morning.

Base Cost: $150.00

Opened: 01/01/2020

In Grades: 3 to 4 for 2019-20 School year

2020 Junior A (Grades 5-6) Registration

Spring 2020 Grades 5-6 Junior A League softball

Junior A is the next step in ASA/USA player development.  Pitchers move back to 40 feet, bases move back to 60 feet at 1st and 3rd and 84’10 ¼” at 2nd (from home plate).  Players pitch exclusively, walks are instituted, stealing and bunting are allowed. There is a 4 run limit per inning and each game lasts 6 innings, time permitting.

No Dropped 3rd strike rule in effect, no infield fly rule in effect, and umpires at every game.  The typical schedule is a 6-7 week season beginning after April vacation and running into early June, followed by a playoff season and a best of 3 finals ending around the time school ends.  Typically, there will be one practice per week and 2-3 games, one on a Sunday mid-day.

Teams are formed by coaches draft and rosters will be complete by mid-April.

2020 Seniors (Grades 7-9) Registration

Seniors are our oldest level of play in Framingham Softball.  The ASA/USA rules of play guide this league, including unlimited runs, stealing, bunting, dropped third strike, and the infield fly rule is in play.

The typical schedule is a 6-7 week season beginning after April vacation and running into early June, followed by a playoff season and a best of 3 finals ending around the time school ends.  Typically there will be one practice per week and 2-3 games, one always on a Sunday afternoon.

This year, we are opening up registration to 9th graders once again.  This is primarily designed for players who love the game and want to continue playing, but are not playing at the high school.
